Psicobloc Masters Series Returns: Tickets On Sale Tuesday, July 15

Psicobloc Masters Series Returns to Utah Olympic Park, August 7 & 8; Tickets On Sale Tuesday, July 15

July 14, 2014 (PARK CITY, Utah) – The 50-foot Psicobloc wall has arrived in Park City,Utah. Wall construction has begun as the Clif Bar Psicobloc Master Series event organizers prepare for the second annual event scheduled for August 6 to 8, 2014. Tickets to this highly anticipated climbing competition go on-sale Tuesday, July 15.

In its second year, event organizers anticipate a strong field of top professional climbers from around the world. The climbers will converge on the Olympic Aerials Pool at Utah Olympic Park during the same timeframe as the 2014 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. “I can’t believe it is already time for the second Psicobloc competition at the Olympic Park.” says professional climber and event organizer Chris Sharma. “The venue is so amazing and beautiful, and last year’s event was so much fun. After working out some kinks I think this year is going to be even better.”

The inaugural event held August 2013 drew an estimated crowd of over 5,000 spectators over two-days of competition.  All-in-all, over 50,000 viewers watched the live stream and event rebroadcast. Last year, Jimmy Webb won in a dramatic final over Daniel Woods win the men’s field, and Sasha Diguilian narrowly defeating Delaney Miller in the women’s division.

This year’s competition will feature both men’s and women’s divisions. Competition will be in the style of a “duel” where competitors race head-to-head on identical routes, with the highest or first to the top advancing to the next round.

The competition wall, designed by Walltopia, reaches over 50 feet above the pool and overhangs roughly 25 feet. The climbers use no ropes or harnesses, creating a thrilling plunge into the water below if they fall.

Psicobloc is Spanish for “crazy bouldering,” or what is commonly referred to as “deep-water soloing” amongst the climber community. Finuco Martinez is the founder of the original Psicobloc Masters Series, which began in Bilbao, Spain, in 2011. The Park City event is the brainchild of Kevin Bradburn, President of Momentum Indoor Climbing; Mike Beck, Sports and Entertainment Attorney; filmmaker Mike Call, and Chris Sharma, described by NPR as the world’s best rock climber.

“This competition comes at a perfect time as indoor climbing is booming and Psicobloc is a really fun way to take artificial climbing outdoors” says Bradburn, who just opened a second Momentum gym location in Salt Lake City.  Event organizer Mike Beck notes, “It was great to hear the positive feedback about last year’s event from the sponsors, competitors, and spectators, many of whom called it the best climbing event they had ever been a part of. We really appreciated that support, and look forward to making this year’s event better for everyone.”
